Joy S.Massage Therapy With a Treatment Goal Behind It
Registered massage therapy works on the muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems at once. Your RMT applies focused techniques to soft tissue and joints to relieve pain and tension, improve blood and lymph circulation, and support tissue healing. At Northville Rehabilitation Centre, that starts with finding out what created the tension. A shoulder that seizes every afternoon at a desk needs a different session than a calf strained on the soccer pitch, so the pressure, the pace, and the areas we work on all follow the assessment rather than a fixed routine.
Every session comes from a Registered Massage Therapist held to the standards of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, including Hui Ying (Emily) Huang, RMT, who works in deep tissue, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy, and Mun Yee (Polly) Yip, RMT, trained in Swedish, hot stone, prenatal, and deep tissue massage. Because our RMTs share a clinic with chiropractors, physiotherapists, and registered acupuncturists, treatment can slot into a bigger plan. Soft tissue release before a chiropractic adjustment helps the correction hold, and loosening a guarded muscle often lets physiotherapy exercise progress a week or two sooner.
What to Expect :
- A short intake covering your symptoms, health history, medications, and the outcome you want from the session
- An assessment of posture, range of motion, and the tissue itself, so treatment goes where the restriction actually sits
- Focused hands-on work at a pressure you control, with your RMT checking in and adjusting throughout
- Aftercare guidance covering stretches, heat or ice, hydration, and how soon to rebook
Our massage therapists treat repetitive strains, chronic muscle tension, thoracic outlet syndrome, tendonitis, and fibromyalgia, along with tension headaches, postural strain from desk work, and recovery between training sessions. Book standard registered massage therapy, deep tissue, or hot stone, as a single appointment for relief or a short series for something long-standing. Our front desk submits your claim to most Canadian extended health plans on the day of treatment.
Why CHoose Us
Massage Therapy That Does More Than Feel Good on the Day
Every therapist here holds registration with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, which sets the training, safety, and record-keeping standards behind the RMT title and behind an insurance-eligible receipt.
Your RMT works alongside our chiropractors, physiotherapists, and acupuncturists in the same building, so massage supports the plan instead of running parallel to it.
We look at posture, range, and tissue quality before hands go on. That is the difference between an hour that feels pleasant and an hour that changes how your neck moves on Monday.
Most Canadian extended health plans include a massage therapy benefit with its own annual maximum. Our front desk submits your claim the day you are treated and confirms your limits before you book.
Tension you have carried for months does not have to stay.
A neck that stiffens by mid-afternoon, shoulders that never quite drop, a strain that keeps returning to the same spot, or training that leaves you sore for days. Any of these makes a good reason to book with one of our Registered Massage Therapists in Markham. We submit to most Canadian extended health plans the same day you are treated.

Multi-Disciplinary Care
I came in with pain in my forearms, jaw, shoulders and lower back. Dr. Fiona Chan is extremely thorough. Her adjustments are accurate, gentle and very effective. Irene’s exercise programs target my posture directly, and Shahrzad picks up on the tiniest tension patterns. Chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy together have greatly decreased my pain.
Frequent Asked Questions
No referral needed to book with us. Some extended health policies do require a physician’s note before they reimburse massage therapy, and a few cap the number of visits per year, so check your plan wording or call 905-534-8666, and our staff will confirm.
Repetitive strain injuries, chronic muscle tension, thoracic outlet syndrome, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, tension headaches, neck and shoulder tightness from computer work, low back stiffness, sports recovery, and stress that settles into the body. Massage also supports recovery between physiotherapy or chiropractic visits.
Training, scope, and paperwork. A Registered Massage Therapist completes a two to three year program, passes provincial certification, and holds registration with the CMTO. Sessions begin with an assessment, follow a treatment plan, and produce a receipt your insurer accepts. Relaxation massage at a spa carries none of those requirements.
Appointments run from 30 minutes up to 120, in 15 minute steps. Thirty minutes suits one focused area such as the neck and shoulders. Sixty is the most common choice and covers several regions. Seventy-five minutes and beyond suit full-body work or a long-standing problem where the therapist needs time to work through layers. Your RMT can recommend a length after the first visit.
Nearly every Canadian workplace plan includes a massage therapy benefit, usually with an annual dollar maximum separate from your other paramedical coverage. Our front desk submits the claim on the day of treatment wherever the provider allows it. See our insurance providers page for the plans we work with.
It should not. Deeper work on a stubborn area can feel intense, but useful pressure stays within what you can breathe through comfortably. Tell your RMT at any point and the pressure changes immediately. Mild tenderness the next day, similar to after a workout, counts as normal and passes quickly.
Only to your comfort level. You undress in private, lie under a sheet and blanket, and your RMT uncovers just the area being treated and covers it again afterwards. Plenty of effective work happens through clothing when a patient prefers that, so say so at intake.
Three. Standard registered massage therapy, deep tissue, and hot stone. Deep tissue works slowly through stubborn restriction and is what Emily focuses on. Hot stone uses heated stones to warm and release tight tissue before hands-on work, and Polly offers it. If you are not sure which suits you, book a standard appointment and your RMT will advise.
Yes. Polly Yip, RMT is trained in prenatal massage. There is no separate prenatal booking type, so book a standard registered massage therapy appointment with Polly and tell us how far along you are, so we can allow the right positioning and setup. Expectant patients often combine massage with pelvic floor physiotherapy or gentle pregnancy chiropractic for back pain and pelvic pressure.
For an acute problem, weekly for two or three weeks tends to hold the gains, then spacing out as symptoms settle. For chronic tension driven by work posture or training load, most patients land somewhere between every two and every six weeks. Your RMT recommends a rhythm rather than selling a package.
