Physiotherapy Built Around How You Actually Move

Physiotherapy at Northville Rehabilitation Centre makes the most of your mobility and function, whether you recover from surgery, a sports injury, a car accident, or pain that crept in over years at a desk. Your physiotherapist identifies the physical irregularity behind the symptom, treats it with manual therapy, then prescribes a personalized exercise program to improve strength, balance, and range of motion. We review and progress every program as you improve, so the plan matches the body in front of us rather than a protocol on paper.

Registered physiotherapists deliver every session at our Markham clinic: Timothy Kwan, HBSc, MScPT, Irene Chau, MScPT, Kan Ling Chen, MScPT, and Rachel Marie Tan, BSc Physio, all registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. Treatment can draw on the tools already inside the building, including Class IV K-Laser for persistent inflammation, Graston Technique for scar tissue and adhesions, aquatherapy in the deep pool when land-based loading hurts too much, and an ergonomic assessment when your workstation keeps re-creating the injury.

What to Expect :

Our physiotherapists treat low back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, joint tendonitis, acute and chronic knee pain, balance problems, post-surgical recovery, sports injuries, and neurological conditions, including stroke and Parkinson’s. No referral required in Ontario. Our front desk submits your claim to most Canadian extended health plans on the day of treatment.

Why CHoose Us

Physiotherapy That Fixes the Cause, Not Just the Flare-Up

Registered Physiotherapists in Markham

Four physiotherapists practise here, each registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and trained at the master’s level. You see the same clinician through your plan, not a rotating roster.

Rehab Backed by the Whole Clinic

K-Laser, Graston, aquatherapy, custom orthotics, and ergonomic assessments all sit under one roof, alongside chiropractic and massage therapy, so your physiotherapist can add what the case needs without an outside referral.

Measured Progress, Not Endless Visits

Strength, range, and balance get tested at the start and retested as you go. You leave with a home program and a discharge target, because the goal is finishing rehab rather than booking forever.

Physiotherapy Claims Filed Same Day

Most Canadian extended health plans carry a physiotherapy benefit with its own annual limit. Our front desk submits the claim the day you are treated and confirms your coverage before the first visit.

Getting back to normal starts with knowing what went wrong.

A knee that gives out on stairs, a shoulder that will not lift overhead, back pain that returns every few months, or a recovery that stalled after surgery. Each of these makes a good reason to book a physiotherapy assessment at Northville. No referral needed, and we submit to most Canadian extended health plans the same day you are treated.

Osama H.

Chiropractic Patient

I started seeing Dr. Fiona over 10 months ago for severe back pain, and she has been professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring throughout my recovery. She always took the time to listen, explain the treatment, and make sure I was comfortable. Thanks to her care, my back pain has improved significantly.

Osteopathy Patient

I have been seeing Shahrzad regularly for over two years now, and the results speak for themselves. Every session leaves me feeling looser, more mobile, and completely refreshed. She is so good at what she does I followed her to the Northville location! Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic osteopath.

Quanita K.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

Amazing experience with Rachel! I completely tore my ACL and my meniscus, had fractures on my femur and tibia, couldn’t walk, but after a couple of sessions with Rachel, I can walk and bear weight now. Thanks Rachel!

Courtney C.

Massage & Acupuncture Patient

Had a great experience with Polly the massage therapist and Josephine for acupuncture. They got me feeling great! Would highly recommend this clinic for anyone looking to fix their problems!

Annie Z.

Multi-Disciplinary Care

I came in with pain in my forearms, jaw, shoulders and lower back. Dr. Fiona Chan is extremely thorough. Her adjustments are accurate, gentle and very effective. Irene’s exercise programs target my posture directly, and Shahrzad picks up on the tiniest tension patterns. Chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy together have greatly decreased my pain.

Frequent Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario?

No. Physiotherapists work as primary contact practitioners in Ontario, so you can book directly with our Markham clinic. Some extended health policies still ask for a physician’s note before reimbursing, and motor vehicle accident claims follow their own process, so check your plan wording if coverage matters to you.

Low back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff problems, joint tendonitis, acute and chronic knee pain, ankle sprains, post-surgical recovery after joint replacement or ligament repair, sports injuries, whiplash, balance and mobility problems, and neurological conditions such as stroke and Parkinson’s.

Plan for roughly an hour. Your physiotherapist takes a full history, tests strength, joint range, balance, and movement, then explains the diagnosis in plain language. Treatment usually starts the same visit and you leave with a home exercise program. Wear clothing that lets us see and move the affected area.

Simple soft tissue injuries often settle in six to eight sessions. Post-surgical rehab and neurological conditions run longer and follow surgeon or specialist timelines. Your physiotherapist gives an estimate after the assessment and re-tests as you go, so the plan gets shorter when you progress faster than expected.

OHIP funds physiotherapy only in limited circumstances at designated clinics, so most patients use extended health coverage. Nearly every Canadian workplace plan includes a physiotherapy benefit. Call 905-534-8666, and our staff will confirm your limits or review the insurance providers we submit to.

Considerable overlap exists, and many patients see both. Chiropractic leans toward joint manipulation and restoring movement at a specific segment. Physiotherapy leans toward graded exercise, strength, and functional retraining over a longer arc. Working in the same clinic, our practitioners coordinate rather than duplicate.

Yes. We handle rehabilitation after knee and hip replacement, ACL and rotator cuff repair, and fracture immobilization, working to your surgeon’s protocol. On the neurological side we treat stroke recovery and Parkinson’s, focusing on balance, gait, strength, and fall prevention.

Yes. Our aquatherapy program lets patients perform cardiovascular and resistance exercise in the deep pool, where buoyancy removes load from painful joints. It suits arthritic hips and knees, post-surgical patients not yet ready for full weight bearing, and anyone whose pain limits land-based training.

Yes, and pairing usually speeds things up. Massage therapy or acupuncture releases guarded muscle so exercise progresses sooner, and a chiropractic adjustment restores joint movement that strengthening then holds. Ask our front desk to book back-to-back appointments.
