Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is a specialization among physiotherapists involving internal and external treatment of the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles help support pelvic organs and bowel/bladder control. Symptoms of an unhealthy pelvic floor can include urinary leakage, incontinence, feeling of vaginal heaviness, pelvic pain or pressure, constipation, etc.
Our Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist has further studied and experienced in treating pre-natal and post-natal pelvic floor conditions. These include preparing your body and pelvic floor for smooth delivery, managing pain throughout pregnancy, and recovery after delivery (abdominal separation, tears and scar management, etc.), ensuring safe return to activities
Irene Chau is our registered physiotherapist with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She has a particular interest in the relationship of pelvic floor and pregnancy, and therefore has furthered her studies beyond Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy with education in:
- Childbirth and the Pelvic Floor
- Diastasis Recti Abdominis and Pelvic Floor Muscle Dysfunction
- Pregnancy, Pelvic Girdle Pain and the Pelvic Floor
