Joy S.Treating the Skin by Treating What Sits Behind It
Advanced Cosmetic Acupuncture is a modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine, and its logic differs from most aesthetic treatments. TCM holds that disharmonies in the internal organs show up on the outside, so skin is read as a signal rather than an isolated surface. Treatment works both ways at once. Very fine needles on the face prompt the body’s local repair response, while a constitutional treatment addresses the digestion, sleep, hormones, or stress driving the presentation. That is why results tend to build gradually and hold, rather than arrive overnight and fade on a schedule.
Treatment comes from Lisa Luo, R.TCMP, R.Ac, registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario. Holding full Traditional Chinese Medicine registration rather than acupuncture alone means she reads your skin against the whole picture, digestion, sleep, hormones, and stress included, and builds the constitutional half of the treatment around what she finds. Consultations are available in Cantonese and English.
What to Expect :
- A full TCM intake covering your skin concerns alongside digestion, sleep, stress, energy, and hormonal patterns, plus tongue and pulse assessment
- Very fine needles placed at the face and scalp, far thinner than anything used for injectables, alongside body points chosen for your underlying pattern
- Supporting recommendations where appropriate, which may include TCM dietary guidance and skincare adjustments
Patients come to us for fine lines, wrinkles, acne and blemishes, and dull or uneven complexion, and many report better sleep and digestion along the way, since the constitutional treatment runs underneath. Cosmetic acupuncture is an aesthetic service and is not claimable through extended health plans, unlike our therapeutic acupuncture. That is why it is not listed in our online booking. Call 905-534-8666 to book, and we will walk you through what a course involves before you commit.
Why CHoose Us
Cosmetic Acupuncture From Registered TCM Practitioners
Lisa Luo holds R.TCMP and R.Ac registration with the CTCMPAO, Ontario’s regulatory college. Facial needling sits inside a full medical framework here rather than being offered as a spa add-on by someone with a weekend certificate.
Because Lisa is licensed for the full scope of TCM, treatment pairs facial work with a constitutional plan and dietary guidance. Skin driven by digestion, hormones, or stress needs both, and needling the face alone leaves the cause untouched.
Nothing is injected, and nothing is frozen. You keep your full range of expression, and most patients go straight back to work afterward. Occasional small bruising at a needle site is the only common after-effect.
Cosmetic acupuncture works cumulatively, so we explain up front roughly how many sessions to expect and what maintenance looks like. At the consultation, you’ll get a realistic picture rather than a package pushed on the first visit.
Skin usually reflects something happening underneath.
Fine lines settling in, acne that never fully cleared, a complexion that looks tired no matter how you sleep, or an aversion to anything involving injections. Advanced Cosmetic Acupuncture treats the surface and the cause together, with no downtime and nothing frozen. Book a consultation with one of our registered TCM practitioners in Markham, or call 905-534-8666 to ask what a course would involve.

Multi-Disciplinary Care
I came in with pain in my forearms, jaw, shoulders and lower back. Dr. Fiona Chan is extremely thorough. Her adjustments are accurate, gentle and very effective. Irene’s exercise programs target my posture directly, and Shahrzad picks up on the tiniest tension patterns. Chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy together have greatly decreased my pain.
Frequent Asked Questions
Very fine needles create controlled micro-stimulation at the surface, which prompts the body’s natural local repair and circulation response in the treated area. Alongside that, body points address the internal pattern your practitioner identifies, whether that involves digestion, hormones, sleep, or stress. The combination is what distinguishes it from a purely surface treatment.
Far less than people expect. The needles are roughly the thickness of a human hair, nothing like the gauge used for injections. Most patients describe a brief pinprick at some points and nothing at all at others, then find the session itself deeply relaxing. Plenty fall asleep partway through.
Cosmetic acupuncture works cumulatively, so a course of treatments is standard rather than a single visit, typically starting more frequently and spacing out as results build. Most patients then move to periodic maintenance. Your practitioner gives you the specific schedule at the consultation, based on your skin and your goals.
Essentially none. You can return to work, exercise, or your evening straight afterward. Small bruises at a needle site occasionally appear and fade within a few days, which is why we suggest booking a week or so before a wedding or event rather than the day before.
Nothing is injected and no muscle is paralyzed, so facial expression stays entirely your own. Injectables produce a faster and more dramatic change on a fixed timeline. Cosmetic acupuncture builds gradually, works with your body’s own responses, and addresses internal contributors that injectables do not touch. Some patients use both.
Fine lines and wrinkles, acne and blemishes, dull or uneven complexion, and puffiness. Because a constitutional TCM treatment runs alongside, patients frequently notice improvements in sleep, digestion, and stress as well, which are often connected to what shows on the skin in the first place.
Tell your practitioner if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, bruise very easily, have a bleeding disorder, or have had injectables or other facial procedures recently. Active skin infections, open lesions, or recent surgery in the area mean waiting. Your practitioner will screen for all of this at the consultation.
Usually not. Extended health plans typically reimburse acupuncture provided for a therapeutic reason rather than an aesthetic one, so cosmetic treatment normally falls outside coverage. If you are being treated for a health condition as well, that portion may qualify. Call 905-534-8666 and we will explain how it would be billed.
No, and that is the point. Facial needling addresses what shows, while body points and TCM dietary guidance address the internal pattern behind it.
