A Whole-Body Approach to Acupuncture

At Northville Rehabilitation Centre, acupuncture works as a precise tool for pain relief, muscle tension, and stalled healing, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Every session opens with an assessment of the region driving your symptoms, because point selection, needle depth, and retention time all depend on what your nervous system and surrounding tissue actually need that day. Used on its own or alongside chiropractic care, physiotherapy, or massage therapy, acupuncture performs best as part of a coordinated plan.

Acupuncture at our Markham clinic comes from registered practitioners. Lisa Luo, R.TCMP, R.Ac and Josephine Lau, R.TCMP, R.Ac both hold registration with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, and both practise the full scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside needling. That means your session can stay purely orthopaedic, targeting a stiff shoulder or a locked lower back, or widen to address sleep, digestion, stress, and hormonal patterns when those feed the problem.

What to Expect :

Whether you manage chronic pain, recover from a recent injury, battle tension headaches, or want to speed up results from your other treatments, acupuncture at Northville can help. Most patients notice immediate relaxation and looser muscle tension, often within the first session. Our front desk submits your claim to your extended health provider on the day of treatment, so reimbursement lands quickly.

Why CHoose Us

Acupuncture Delivered by Registered Practitioners

Experienced Practitioners

Dedicated acupuncture appointments are delivered by Lisa Luo, R.TCMP, R.Ac and Josephine Lau, R.TCMP, R.Ac, both registered with the CTCMPAO, Ontario’s regulatory college. Several of our chiropractors and physiotherapists are also acupuncture providers who use it within their own treatment.

Needling That Supports Your Other Treatment

Acupuncture calms an overactive muscle so a chiropractic adjustment holds longer, or releases tissue before physiotherapy. Book it on its own or stack it back-to-back the same day.

Points Chosen From an Assessment

Point selection, needle depth, and retention time follow what we find in the tissue that day. Sterile, single-use needles every session, with stimulation adjusted to how you respond.

Acupuncture Coverage Confirmed Before You Come In

Most extended health plans include an acupuncture benefit when a registered acupuncturist performs the treatment. Call 905-534-8666, and we will check your limits before your first visit.

One session can change how the rest of your week feels.

Chronic pain, tension headaches, a sports injury that will not settle, or simply feeling worn down by stress. Any of these makes a good reason to start with an assessment from one of our registered acupuncturists at Northville. Our front desk submits your claim to most Canadian extended health plans on the day of treatment, so there are no surprises at checkout.

Here’s what recovery with our chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage and osteopathy team actually looks like.

Osama H.

Chiropractic Patient

I started seeing Dr. Fiona over 10 months ago for severe back pain, and she has been professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring throughout my recovery. She always took the time to listen, explain the treatment, and make sure I was comfortable. Thanks to her care, my back pain has improved significantly.

Frida B.

Physiotherapy Patient

I highly recommend Irene as a physiotherapist. She provides exceptional care and is both highly knowledgeable and genuinely compassionate. She is kind, patient, encouraging, and always makes me feel comfortable and supported. Her professionalism and dedication have made a real difference in my recovery.

Liang Z.

Osteopathy Patient

I have been seeing Shahrzad regularly for over two years now, and the results speak for themselves. Every session leaves me feeling looser, more mobile, and completely refreshed. She is so good at what she does I followed her to the Northville location! Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic osteopath.

Quanita K.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

Amazing experience with Rachel! I completely tore my ACL and my meniscus, had fractures on my femur and tibia, couldn’t walk, but after a couple of sessions with Rachel, I can walk and bear weight now. Thanks Rachel!

Courtney C.

Massage & Acupuncture Patient

Had a great experience with Polly the massage therapist and Josephine for acupuncture. They got me feeling great! Would highly recommend this clinic for anyone looking to fix their problems!

Annie Z.

Multi-Disciplinary Care

I came in with pain in my forearms, jaw, shoulders and lower back. Dr. Fiona Chan is extremely thorough. Her adjustments are accurate, gentle and very effective. Irene’s exercise programs target my posture directly, and Shahrzad picks up on the tiniest tension patterns. Chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy together have greatly decreased my pain.

Frequent Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients describe acupuncture as a very minor sensation, closer to a small pinch or nothing at all. The needles measure roughly the thickness of a human hair, far finer than a needle used for bloodwork. You may notice a brief twitch or a dull, warm heaviness once the needle reaches the target tissue. Both count as normal signs of an effective response.

Neck and back pain, frozen shoulder, sciatica, tennis elbow, knee pain, tension headaches and migraines, TMJ discomfort, sports injuries, and repetitive strain from desk work. Beyond musculoskeletal complaints, our registered acupuncturists also treat insomnia, digestive upset, stress, fatigue, allergies, and menstrual irregularity through Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Acute problems often settle within four to six sessions. Long-standing or chronic conditions usually call for a longer course with gradually spaced visits. After the first assessment, your acupuncturist gives you an honest estimate and reviews progress as you go, rather than selling a fixed package up front.

Most Canadian extended health plans include an acupuncture benefit when treatment comes from a registered acupuncturist. Coverage limits vary by policy, so check your plan or call our front desk at 905-534-8666 and we will confirm before your visit. See the full list of insurance providers we work with.

Yes, when performed by a registered practitioner. We use sterile, single-use, disposable needles that go straight into a sharps container after treatment. Both of our acupuncturists hold registration with the CTCMPAO, which sets Ontario’s safety, hygiene, and competency standards. Mild bruising or brief tenderness at a point counts as the most common side effect.

Acupuncture forms one modality inside Traditional Chinese Medicine. TCM also covers herbology, cupping, tuina massage, and gua sha. Because our practitioners hold both R.Ac and R.TCMP registration, they can combine these tools in one visit when your presentation calls for more than needling alone.

Plan for about an hour. We review your health history and goals, assess the affected area, then place needles and leave them in for roughly 15 to 25 minutes while you rest. Wear loose clothing that lets us reach the arms, legs, and back easily. Eat something light beforehand.

Yes, with a practitioner trained in prenatal care. Certain points get avoided during pregnancy, so tell us how far along you are when you book. Pregnant patients often pair acupuncture with pelvic floor physiotherapy or gentle pregnancy chiropractic for back pain, pelvic pressure, and sleep.

Yes, and many patients get faster results that way. Needling calms an overactive muscle so a chiropractic adjustment holds longer, or releases tissue before a physiotherapy exercise session. Ask our front desk to book back-to-back appointments and save yourself a second trip.
